Happy Father’s Day to all the dads and father figures out there.
I called my 81-year-old dad to wish him happy father’s day this morning. He lives in Denver with my mom, and being so far apart during this pandemic is hard. Yet I am grateful to have recently found a new and unexpected way to connect with him through my online meditation class.
I began offering virtual yoga and meditation classes in mid-March as the pandemic began, to create a space for my friends and students to continue to practice as studios were closing. To my surprise, my dad, who never practiced meditation or yoga in his life, came to my first meditation class, and then kept coming. He's told me he quickly found that the form of meditation I’m teaching - a Yoga Nidra practice - has brought him renewed flexibility and mobility. He's now incorporated yoga nidra into his morning warm-up routine.
It brings me happiness to know that I have given him a tool to help him through this pandemic, and I hope my meditations have helped some of you, too.
